Should be taken with food. Tab: Swallow whole & do not break/crush. Some formulations may be dissolved in water. Consult product literature for specific instructions.

When used for acute haemorrhoidal attack: Therapy must be short-term; if symptoms do not improve promptly, perform a proctological exam and further review the treatment. Pregnancy and lactation.

Gastrointestinal disorders: Diarrhoea, dyspepsia, nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, colitis.
General disorders and administration site conditions: Malaise.
Immune system disorders: Angioedema.
Nervous system disorders: Rarely, dizziness, headache.
Skin and subcutaneous tissue disorders: Rarely, rash, pruritus, urticaria.

Symptoms: Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, pruritus, and rash. Management: Symptomatic treatment.

Description:
Mechanism of Action: Diosmin and hesperidin are venotonic and vascular protective flavonoid compounds which act on the vascular return system. The combination increases venous tone by inhibiting the breakdown and prolonging the activity of norepinephrine, thus reducing venous distensibility and stasis. At the microcirculatory level, it normalises capillary permeability and reinforces capillary resistance. Additionally, it improves lymphatic drainage by decreasing the intralymphatic pressure and enhancing the removal of interstitial fluid.
Diosmin, a naturally occurring flavonoid, may be synthesised from hesperidin or commonly isolated from citrus fruits.

Pharmacokinetics:
Absorption: Rapidly absorbed.
Metabolism: Diosmin: Extensively metabolised into phenolic acids.
Hesperidin: Converted by the microflora of the colon to hesperetin.
Excretion: Diosmin: Mainly via faeces (approx 80%); urine (approx 14%). Elimination half-life: 11 hours.
